Meet Edward Hida

Global Leader – Risk & Capital Management, Global Financial Services Industry, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited

Edward Hida is the global leader of Risk & Capital Management and a partner in the Governance, Regulatory & Risk Strategies practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP. In this role, Ed serves some of our largest banking, insurance, asset management, derivatives and securities dealer, and financial infrastructure clients. He has substantial experience consulting on a variety of financial risk management and capital markets issues, spanning a range as wide as governance, policies, procedures, and infrastructure, to methodology, quantitative techniques, and systems.

In both the U.S. and internationally, Ed has completed a wide range of risk management consulting assignments. One of Ed’s clients was recognized by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) as both the Grand Prize Winner and Category Winner for Risk: Advanced Risk Management Methodologies.

Ed is an active commentator on capital markets and risk issues. He has been interviewed on Bloomberg TV and Sky Business TV, and also quoted on risk management issues in the Financial Times, the New York Times’ DealBook, Bloomberg News and Time Magazine, among others. In the forthcoming Handbook on Systemic Risk, published by Cambridge University Press he authors the chapter on systemic risk information requirements; in addition, Ed co-authored several chapters in the book, Asset/Liability Management of Financial Institutions: Maximizing Shareholder Value through Risk-Conscious Investing, published by Institutional Investor.

Among Deloitte-published efforts, Ed is the editor of Deloitte’s “Global risk management survey, eighth edition” (as well as its predecessors). He is the co-author of “SIFI Designation and Its Potential Impact on Nonbank Financial Companies,” “Improving Bank Board Governance: The Bank Board Member’s Guide to Risk Management Oversight,” “Risk Committee Resource Guide for Boards” and “Risk Management in the Age of Structured Products.”

He started his financial services career with a major mortgage lender, where he had a mortgage servicing operations role. Ed later served in a finance role at a major health insurance provider.

Ed is a chartered financial analyst and a certified public accountant licensed in the state of New York. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the International Association of Financial Engineers, the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Risk Management Association and the Professional Risk Manager’s International Association. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, and a master of science degree in management from the University of Wisconsin.
