Innovation Tournaments Book Highlights Deloitte Program |
Critical to customer service, recruitment and the growth of a vibrant culture, innovation is fundamental to the health and strength of business. And a continued investment in innovation, no matter the state of the economy, is necessary for leaders to stay ahead of the competition.
But how do organizations identify extraordinary innovations while they are still in the embryonic stage? That’s the topic explored in Innovation Tournaments: Creating and Selecting Exceptional Opportunities. The book, authored by Wharton School professors Christian Terwiesch and Karl Ulrich, provides a principled approach for the effective management of innovation tournaments, including guidance on evaluating and screening opportunities, constructing an innovation portfolio and aligning the innovation process with an organization's competitive strategy.
In addition, the authors highlight Deloitte’s Innovation Quest program as one of four real-world examples of how organizations are using innovation tournaments to systematically identify exceptional opportunities for innovation.
According to Howard Sniderman, national managing partner, Service Innovation, Deloitte LLP, “Creating a successful innovation tournament requires dedication and skill from professionals across the organization. It involves designing an effective contest as well as the infrastructure to support a collaborative process. It relies on our practitioners sharing their many innovative ideas occurring every day at client sites. And it means, ultimately, selecting the right new ideas for our business and clients. It’s really a tremendous effort and great to see it publicly acknowledged.”
