Deloitte Named A 2009 Best Company For Multicultural Women By Working MotherHonored for fourth consecutive year |
NEW YORK, June 6, 2009 — For the fourth consecutive year, Deloitte has been named one of the best organizations in the United States for multicultural women by the Working Mother magazine. The annual ranking salutes the top 20 U.S. companies for their commitment to workforce diversity and inclusion.
“Maintaining a culture where all of our people, regardless of their gender and backgrounds, can have a rich and rewarding career is paramount to our culture,” said Cathy Benko, chief talent officer and vice chairman, Deloitte LLP. “At Deloitte, we celebrate and harness strength from the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our people to the benefit of our organization and our clients. As such, fostering a culture of inclusion and innovation is, and has always been, a top priority for our organization.”
Barbara Adachi, national managing principal for Deloitte LLP’s award-winning Initiative for the Retention and Advancement of Women (WIN), is featured in the magazine’s profile on Deloitte. Adachi joined Deloitte 19 years ago and in 1995 became the first Asian-American female principal in the firm’s San Francisco office. Adachi lives in San Francisco with her husband and has a 26-year-old daughter.
“Creating an environment where all employees can thrive is essential to a company's success,” said Carol Evans, president, Working Mother Media. “Each Best Company for Multicultural Women demonstrates commitment to diversity by putting its money where its mouth is — through key programs and practices. However, there's still a long way to go. The Best Companies are leading the way, but others need to strengthen initiatives for women and protect programs they put in place prior to the recession.”
This year, Deloitte was recognized for several of its diversity and inclusion initiatives, including the annual hosting of the Women of Color in Management Consulting event and sponsorship of professional conferences and seminars for Hispanic, African-American, and Pan-Asian women. Deloitte was also well regarded for its mentoring programs at community colleges with heavily multicultural populations.
