Joe Echevarria served as CEO of Deloitte LLP 2011-2014, where his leadership responsibilities extended to more than 65,000 professionals in nearly 90 U.S. cities and India.
He joined the Deloitte U.S. Firms in 1978, became an audit partner in 1988, and held a wide range of leadership positions, including U.S. Managing Partner – Operations.
While CEO, Echevarria chaired the U.S. Executive, was a member of the U.S. Board, the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) Executive and DTTL Board, and served on the Americas Executive.
Deloitte hires more than 15,000 annually and Echevarria was known for his passionate support of talent and commitment to inclusion.
Actively engaged in Washington, D.C., Echevarria serves on the President’s Export Council, the principal national advisory committee on international trade. In 2013, Echevarria served on the Presidential Council on Election Administration, which delivered recommendations on best practices in election administration and improving the voting experience. He has joined other CEOs to tackle some of the country’s biggest challenges through participation in both the Fix the Debt campaign and the Business Roundtable. Echevarria was a panelist for the 2012 White House Forum on Women and the Economy and a keynote speaker at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Capital Market Summit.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami, where he serves on the Board of Trustees and chairs the Business School’s Board of Overseers.
