Doug was elected chairman of the board of Deloitte & Touche USA in 1999 and in 2000 he was tapped to fill the chief executive post at Deloitte Consulting. He had been serving as Managing Director of Deloitte Consulting, Americas. At the age of 50, he became Chairman of the Board while continuing his previous role as Managing Director-Americas of Deloitte Consulting. He also was simultaneously chairman of the Deloitte Foundation. The role as Chairman of the Board meant that he was responsible for supervising the U.S. firm's governance process. Doug succeeded Pat Loconto as CEO of Deloitte Consulting's global practice. In 1999 and 2001, Doug was named by Consulting Magazine as one of The Top 10 Most Influential Consultants. Doug began his career with Touche Ross in the Detroit office in 1977 and retired in 2003 .
