Deloitte’s Pro Bono Success: Tsunami Relief |
Around the world, people saw dramatic images of destruction across Indonesia from the most devastating tsunami in recorded history. It happened on December 26, 2004 and prompted an enormous worldwide humanitarian response.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was overwhelmed in its efforts to disburse aid and ensure assistance reached those in need. Their systems simply couldn t handle the outpouring of support from around the globe.
A division of the Deloitte U.S. Firms saw the need and initiated a pro bono project to help, which involved six member firms. They provided recommendations on business and operations processes, as well as financial controls to strengthen the capacity and accountability of the UNDP.
We donated in excess of 17,000 hours of assistance, involving 60 professionals over six months. The total value of the project was in excess of $3.5 million. While we also made a sizeable financial contribution, we were able to contribute services that far outweighed the dollars.
