Meet Valerie Chort

Partner and National Leader of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Valerie Chort is a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP's Enterprise Risk Services practice and is also the National Leader of the Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability group. In this capacity, she provides national direction, coordination and expertise in the areas of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), Corporate Responsibility (CR), Sustainability and Climate Change. She is also a member of Deloitte's Global Corporate Responsibility Council.

With over 16 years of experience acquired in industry, consulting and government, she is a recognized leader in developing and integrating leading EHS and CR practices into business strategy. She has experience in structuring EHS and CR corporate functions, as well as in developing EHS and CR risk mitigation strategies to maximize opportunities.

Prior to joining Deloitte, she was the Vice-President of EHS and Product Safety with a supplier of injection molding equipment. In that capacity, she integrated EHS into all aspects of the company’s business, from people, technological developments, product design, manufacturing, campus and building design, and supplier selection.

Valerie currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Ethics and Corporate Policy; as chair of the CICA Annual Report Awards–Sustainability Reporting Category; as a judge for the Ceres-ACCA North American Sustainability Reporting 2006 and 2007 Awards. She served on the Advisory Panel of the Carbon Disclosure Project in 2006 and 2007, and sat on the development and selection panel for the Conference Board’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (2007).

Valerie graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemisty and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering. She is fluent in French and Spanish.
