Seminar “Business forecasting”

On 14 February 2013 the Deloitte Academy, together with Konstantyn Patsera, held a seminar on “Business forecasting” aimed at top management. The main objectives of the event were to familiarise the participants with the main forecasting methods and to model quality assurance tools.

Why did we select this particular topic? We believe that a lack of understanding of how business models are developed often results in ideas with scientific backing for business solutions being abandoned. In this case, irrational intuition or personal beliefs serve as the only rational argument, and personal beliefs tend to be subjective and are often misleading. 

For many Ukrainian companies, the issue of business analytics is precariously balanced between two extremes: the lack of relevant data and surplus data storage. To find a solution, we first need to specify purposes/processes that require business analytics. Then we can start looking at what type of analytical data is required and come up with ways to develop a business forecasting model.   

We are very proud to report that some of the participants called our seminar a “turning point” in favour of establishing an analytical function.
