Contributing lignite coal fields to the economy

The fact that Turkey is not rich in fossil resources
constitutes a problem in energy policies,
particularly with regard to import dependency in
the context of supply security. For this reason, the
use of indigenous resources and lignite reserves
in particular has been under discussion for a
long time. However, the arrangements adopted
for utilization and initiatives taken under such
arrangements have resulted in failure.

This report has been prepared to discuss and
suggest models for the use of lignite reserves for
energy generation. Undoubtedly, all stakeholders
have a word to say on this subject. Using national
resources in the most effi cient way and, in doing
so, taking factors such as environment and
requests of local people into consideration are the
most important objectives.
