The birth of today’s informed energy consumers
Customer expectations and behaviours greatly influence the energy marketplace, yet they are often perceived as difficult to gauge. What are residential consumers and businesses thinking and doing about energy consumption and provider choice as the U.S. economy gains strength? Has consumer resourcefulness become an entrenched value that is influencing electricity usage and plans for future consumption? What types of products and services are consumers likely to consider next in order to improve their energy pictures? How do residential and business customers perceive the service they receive from their electricity companies?
The third annual Deloitte reSources Study illuminates the mindsets and behaviours of electricity customers in relation to questions such as these, and provides insights useful in helping energy companies and businesses make energy-related investment and business decisions.
As a leader in advising energy companies, Deloitte, with strategy and market research firm Harrison Group, a YouGov Company, has completed its third annual study of electricity customers in the U.S. This nationwide study reflects Deloitte’s commitment to provide thoughtful views on significant emerging trends and developments. It does this by seeking to uncover the actions consumers and businesses are taking to manage their energy usage, to assess what they know about the energy marketplace, and to understand what motivates them to adopt new practices and invest in new technologies. The study also explores generational variations relating to energy management, which provide insight into what solutions may appeal to customers in the future.
