The list of Top 500 companies from 18 Central European countries has been compiled on the basis of their revenue from sales in 2008. Besides the general Top 500 list, Deloitte has created the lists of Top 50 banks and Top 50 insurance companies in the region. This is the third consecutive year that Deloitte, based on its expertise and international network of offices, published the CE Top 500 list which has by now become relevant indicator of economic forces in the region.
This year’s list confirmed the domination of energy and resources companies. First place on the list is yet again taken by the Polish oil giant PKN Orlen, followed by Hungarian Mol and Ukrainian Metinvest, which is also the best placed representative of the manufacturing sector. Energy and resources industry companies, 151 in total on the list, are followed by consumer business industry companies, transport industry and manufacturing.
Slovenian companies on the Top 500 list are for the most part representatives of the consumer business, energy and resources, and life science sectors. Besides the leading Petrol group (41st place) and Mercator group (46th place), the Top10 Slovenian companies are: Petrol group (54), PS Mercator (91), Gorenje grop (134), Merkur group (143), Revzo (151), HSE group (199), Lek (204) and Krka group (208). Deloitte also compiled the lists of Top 50 banks and Top 50 insurance companies in Central Europe. Slovenian NLB group has taken excellent 9th place among other CE banks. On the Top 50 insurance companies list, the best placed among Slovenian companies in Zavarovalnica Triglav (8th place), followed by Adriatic Slovenica zavarovalna družba (33), Zavarovalnica Maribor (34) and Vzajemna (36).
