Benefitting students
This is the first time the ‘Deloitte Award’ will be presented to outstanding students of NUS. The award, fully funded by Deloitte Southeast Asia, is further testament to Deloitte’s support of tertiary education in the life sciences & healthcare industry.
Of the award, Associate Professor Chan Sui Yung, Head, Department of Pharmacy, NUS, said: “I am thrilled that Deloitte selected our Pharmacy graduands as the recipients of these awards. This augurs well for current and future students of NUS as the award will serve as motivation for them to try hard to succeed. It also signifies that our contribution in the pharmaceutical development and biomedical industry is highly regarded by industry. We are deeply appreciative of Deloitte’s generosity. With the support of Deloitte and other partners, we will continue to grow talents for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The growth of talent is a critical factor to ensure Singapore stays competitive with a skilled and well trained manpower.”
Associate Professor Chan added that NUS’ post-graduate pharmacy programmes offer local students a competitive edge by allowing them to study part-time while working; this is to cater to continuing growth and an increasing demand for highly qualified pharmacists for Singapore’s healthcare industry.
Janson Yap, Deloitte’s Regional Industry Leader for Life Sciences and Healthcare based in Singapore, said: “We were discussing with NUS about how to recognize and develop the life sciences industry in Southeast Asia and Singapore. With this award, we hope that the life sciences industry will receive greater prominence and that more students will be motivated to embark on careers in this field while the achievements of the most successful students are celebrated.”
Deloitte and NUS have both expressed an interest in making the award presentation an annual affair, as NUS strives to interest more students to seek a career in the life sciences & healthcare industry.
