Deloitte’s collaboration with the International Corporate Governance Network supports development of corporate governance leader
Singapore, 09 July 2013 — Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) today announced that it has joined forces with the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) to launch the ICGN Deloitte scholarship programme. The collaboration will support the development of five corporate governance leaders from Indonesia, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Pakistan and Peru.
The objective of the programme is to provide support to individuals working predominantly in difficult or emerging market environments so they can globalise local corporate governance practices; aligning with the international progression of business. The scholarship will provide each scholar with mentorship from well-respected governance leaders. The mentors, with support of ICGN and DTTL, will guide the scholars’ development and exposure to leading thought leaders, global developments and leading practices within the corporate governance sphere over the three years of the programme.
David Chew, Executive Director, Deloitte Southeast Asia Centre of Corporate Governance comments: “Effective corporate governance is key to strong and functioning capital markets, and a foundation of transparency and audit quality. Good governance comes down to individuals and what they do, which is why we are proud to support the on-going development of professionals who have a strong track record in contributing to corporate governance. The programme will also help enable the propagation of good governance practices across the globe, which serves the twin goals of market confidence and financial stability.”
ICGN will be provided with USD50,000 per year to support the scholarship programme that includes attendances at ICGN conferences and other professional development programmes.
