Deloitte joins the nation for one year countdown to Singapore 2010

Over 400 Deloitte people will step forward to engage the youth

Today (14 August 2009)  marks the one year countdown to the opening of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Deloitte Singapore – the first Official Partner for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games – will be joining the nation at the One Year Countdown event at the Padang to celebrate this significant moment for Singapore.

Over 400 Deloitte people will participate in the celebration and engage the Singapore youth through a series of sports activities as part of the firm’s commitment towards the development of youth in Singapore and globally. Starting from a Deloitte contingent walk from their office premise at Shenton Way to the Padang, to engaging the public using new media via the electronic sport try-out stations, this is part of Deloitte’s activation programme to engage its clients and the public to promote the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Chaly Mah, CEO of Deloitte Asia Pacific said, “Today’s celebration is a great occasion for Deloitte to highlight the fact that we are honoured to be given the opportunity to show our support to Singapore, and be part of the Singapore team to deliver a successful international sports event to the world. With one year to go, we are on track with the plan and are pleased with the progress of the work streams. We are also impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the team at the Singapore Youth Olympics Games Organising Committee assigned to work with us.”

Deloitte views its sponsorship for the Youth Olympic Games as an opportunity for the firm to demonstrate its continuing alignment with the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect, and display its commitment towards the development and education of youth in Singapore and globally.

“This is a great time for hundreds of our Deloitte people to step away from conference calls, meetings and emails for one day, and contribute their time to support the nation while helping in the development of youth in Singapore,” said Chaly.

“Our people are excited about the participation of the firm in a major event like this and they will be volunteering their time to support the Games. Volunteerism helps Deloitte people develop leadership skills, while giving them an opportunity to use the innovative problem solving skills they would normally employ on a day to day basis.”

As the official consultancy services provider for Singapore 2010, Deloitte is partnering SYOGOC to deliver a full spectrum of professional advisory services including programme management, Games impact assessment, enterprise risk management, internal audit, as well as tax, accounting and financial advisory.
