Deloitte CIS launches its Corporate Governance Center in Moscow
Moscow, 4 June 2012 – Deloitte CIS is pleased to announce the opening of its Corporate Governance Center in Russia. The aim of the Center is to promote discussion among government, corporate and industry bodies on the highly important topic of corporate governance, and to provide a resource center for best practices and thought leadership from both a local and global perspective.
Professionals at Deloitte have noted that the recent experiences of Russian businesses, both positive and negative, are helping to develop a stronger equity culture in Russia. Their experiences show how international equity markets are important to a company’s prospects for growth and how it is vital to win the trust of the investment community. For boards and directors, the standards they must meet keep rising and their responsibilities grow, as their activities are scrutinized with greater intensity and more is expected of their performance. Governance specialists from Deloitte will provide both local and international insights on understanding the top priorities of boardrooms in today’s challenging business environment.
David Owen, CEO of Deloitte CIS, comments: "As a leading provider of professional services, we have a keen interest in seeing the financial markets of the CIS grow in integrity, scale and depth. The impact of our services is linked to the overall strength of financial markets – and this strength can only be based on strong institutions and investors’ trust. Corporate Governance standards represent an important part of these fundamentals.
We are pleased to contribute to the development of Corporate Governance practices in the CIS by opening a Deloitte Corporate Governance Center in Moscow. This will serve as a forum to exchange ideas, experiences, and research in Corporate Governance. We hope that this initiative will bring together board members, executives, investors and regulators and promote general understanding and acceptance of strong governance practices."
Oleg Shvyrkov will lead the new Center of Corporate Governance. Before assuming this role, Oleg provided analytical guidance for the governance services department of a leading financial services company, performing interactive, issuer-paid governance assessments in BRICS countries for eight years. He served as the lead analyst for the company’s major clients in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Brazil, chiefly involved in the oil and gas industry.
