Serbian companies on the Top 500 list in the Central Europe |
“The list confirmed that energy sector dominated the list - 145 out of 500 companies on the list belong to this sector. PKN Orlen, Poland’s oil refiner and petroleum distributor, is still at the top of the list, with other energy companies including MOL of Hungary and Metinvest of the Ukraine close by. The largest number of companies are from the energy and resources sector (151 companies), consumer business and transportation and manufacturing are two other industries each represented with 149 and 114 companies respectively,” said Darko Stanisavic, FAS director from Deloitte Serbia.
The Top 500 list of the largest companies in 17 countries in Central Europe1, compiled by Deloitte’s experts, contains several Serbian companies. Out of six Serbian companies listed, the best positioned company is NIS found at the 28th place with EUR 3,725 m revenue of sales revenue, followed by EPS (96), Delta M (101), PTT Srbija (125), US Steel (183) and Srbijagas (287).
Deloitte has also ranked Central European banks and insurance companies by total assets and gross written premium, respectively. Two largest insurance companies from Serbia found their place among the 50 most successful: Dunav osiguranje (46) and DDOR Novi Sad (50). Unfortunately, there are no Serbian banks among the Top 50 banks in Central Europe.

Among our neighboring countries, the best positioned is Slovenia. A total of 22 companies comes from this country (with Petrol on the 41st place being the best positioned company, followed by Mercator group on 46th place). 11 companies from Croatia are listed, with Agrokor on the 25th place followed by INA at 27th position. Macedonian OKTA is at 344th position. None of the companies from Bosnia&Herzegovina and Montenegro is included in the list.
„Out of the top 500 companies, the majority of companies comes from Poland (188) which is more than last year. Also, when compared with previous year list, the number of companies coming from Romania increased, while the number of those coming from Ucraine declined, as the result of of economics downturn in Ukraine, country where big manufacturing companies had decrease of revenues in this year”,added Stanisavic.
