One of the elements most worrisome for organizations when it comes to security breaches is customers as unwitting providers of sensitive information and conduits into finacial institutions, shows the “2007 Global Security Survey – The Shifting Security Paradigm” by Deloitte.
The top reason for breaches into the security systems are e-mail attacks. As many as 52% financial institutions experienced the security breach via e-mail. Second on the list are breaches by viruses and worms (40%), phishing/pharming i.e. usage of false e-mails and web-pages (35%) and intentional breaches by employees (31%). This year, for the first time, the list contains repeated occasions of unintentional breaches into the security structures (up to 14%) and problems with unintentional losses of clients’ data.
