EU subsidies to SMBs for innovation – European Alert (2/2013)

Applications for subsidies in a EU competition: “New investment of a high innovation potential”

A new edition of the competition for businesses from the SMB sector – subsidies for investments of a high innovation potential will be held again in May 2013. The competition will be part of Measure 4.4. of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme organised by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
Businesses can apply for up to PLN 40 million for innovative projects. Applications can be sent until June 5th, 2013.

  • Small and Medium Businesses
Types of Projects Supported*

Innovative investments in the manufacturing or services sectors which meet all of the following criteria:

  • eligible expenses from PLN 8 million to PLN 160 million, total project cannot exceed EUR 50 million;
  •  the technology acquired or implemented as part of the investment is less than three years old; if it has been in use for more than three years, its global penetration rate in a given industry is under 15%;
  • as a result of the project, a new or improved product will be launched on the market
Key Success Factors
  • technical and legal feasibility of the project on the day of submission of an application based on verification of the licences, permits, concessions required to carry out the investment (including environmental decisions)
  •  launch of innovative products on the market (product innovation on a global scale)
  • the applicant has the intellectual property rights that will be used in the project implementation or product launch / the technology used in the project is covered by intellectual property rights
  •  results of previous R&D work are used in the project
  •  the project has a positive impact on EU horizontal policies
Eligible Costs
  • Land, buildings and structures, materials and construction work, new or used fixed assets, intangible assets, training, consultancy services
Level of Funding
  • investment portion: 30%-70%, max. PLN 40 million
  • training portion: 25% – 45%, max. PLN 1 million;
  • consultancy portion: 50%, max. PLN 1 million
Project Commencement After submission of an application for subsidy
Anticipated Competition Date Announcement of the competition results: April 24th, 2013
Applications can be submitted from May 15th to June 5th, 2013
Supporting Institution The Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP)
