Middle Market M&A News: June 2012

The June 2012 edition of Middle Market Merger and Acquisitions (M&A) News, produced by Deloitte Corporate Finance LLC, includes the following highlights:

  • M&A activity lags, but positive indicators remain - Middle market M&A activity decreased in Q1 2012, a trend that has continued since the end of the third quarter of 2011, as companies appear to remain cautious and uncertain about the future. Despite the soft first quarter, there are several factors that suggest an increase in activity is possible.
  • Middle market expands share of M&A deal value - Middle market M&A could capture an increasing percentage of M&A volume in 2012 due to lower risks associated with integrating smaller acquisitions relative to large-cap activity.
  • Financial investor exits remain at high levels - Though the number of private equity exits slightly declined to 135 deals announced in Q1 2012, volume still remains near recent highs.
