Private Equity Confidence Survey2011 Global Emerging Markets Comparison Report |
Widespread perception amongst GPs interviewed for our third Emerging Markets Private Equity Confidence Survey, reflects confidence in emerging market economies, an optimism which augers well for future opportunities for the private equity industry in these markets.
The key findings, collected from 174 private equity (PE) industry participants, are as follows:
- Confidence is returning to the PE industry globally, with increased competition for deals and higher entry multiples pushing international players to explore new markets.
- Southeast Asia is set to become an increasingly important destination for PE investors in the near term.
- Pent-up demand for exits after a quiet 2009 and 2010 is expected to drive increased exit activity in the coming year.
- For general partners (GPs), reputation and track record are keys to success, while diversity in origination is critical to gain access to a broad range of deals.
- The fundraising outlook remains flat, but with some optimism for the longer term. Limited partners (LPs) are taking a more sophisticated, but also more cautious, approach to allocations.
Encouragingly, long term confidence is high across all emerging markets covered within this report – reflecting both the sentiment shared amongst GPs interviewed, combined with macro-related indicators, which together are perceived will drive industry growth over the forthcoming few years.
