Welcome to the 21st Edition of the Deloitte South Island Index.
In this edition we reflect on the performance of South Island listed companies during the quarter to 31 March 2013.
The Deloitte South Island Index started the 2013 calendar year strongly gaining $388 million or 6.9% in the first quarter of the year. This continues the upward trajectory from the previous three quarters with the Index continuing to achieve new heights.
Movements in Mar 2013
The month of March resulted in a sturdy performance with the Deloitte South Island Index increasing by 4.3%. Over the same period, the NZX 50 gained a moderate 2.4%, the Dow Jones 3.7% and the ASX All Ords decreasing 2.7%.
Quarterly Movements – Q1 2013
The Deloitte South Island Index had another outstanding quarter – gaining $388 million (6.9%) in market capitalisation since 31 December 2012. This result was supported by a strong quarter for the Property and Retail sectors, which gained $245 million and $107 million in market capitalisation respectively.
Annual Movements – Apr 2012 – Mar 2013
The Deloitte South Island Index increased by $1.3 billion (27.9%) during the year to 31 March 2013 – outperforming increases in the NZX 50 of 26.0%, the ASX All Ords of 12.7% and the Dow Jones of 10.3%.
