Market turmoil and government in business: Tectonic shift or temporal adjustment?Greg Pellegrino's speech to The New Zealand Business & Parliament Trust |
Greg Pellegrino, the global public sector leader for Deloitte visited New Zealand in August 2009 and delivered a presentation to the NZ Business & Parliament Trust.
Some of the areas he addressed included:
- How can the NZ Government and public sector institutions create sustainable productivity gains?
- Does New Zealand need to determine precisely where it has a comparative advantage versus other countries?
- Reducing spending is one side of the equation, but it is virtually impossible to reduce your way to prosperity
- Greater efficiency in public services is an obvious and necessary goal, but it is the baseline
- A nimble, smaller country like New Zealand is in an ideal position
- Technology means that distance is not a barrier; ideas can be shared rapidly and seamlessly
- But it is also a “spiky world” meaning creative talent can congregate (with the right incentives and structure)
