In conjunction with New Zealand Winegrowers, Deloitte is pleased to present the fourth annual financial benchmarking survey of the New Zealand wine industry. The past year has certainly been a turbulent one, with the fallout from the larger than expected vintages dominating the industry’s performance. Combine that with the global financial crisis, and all sectors of the industry – growers, wineries and those supplying goods and services to it – have been hit.
Given the high level of media attention that the wine industry has received of late, we are sure Vintage 2009 will be of interest to readers. The generally positive profitability trend from past years continues, but we have witnessed year on year declines across all segments of the industry. Despite these difficult times, the industry’s solid international reputation for producing unique, premium quality wines, doesn’t appear to have diminished.
