Pension in mergers and acquisitions

Merging with or acquiring a company carries risks. There are plenty of moments where you can run into unexpected surprises. Deloitte is the worldwide market leader in integrated merger and acquisitions services. The pension and M&A specialists offer efficient and clear advice in each phase of the process.

The practice

When selling or buying a corporation we examine the financial risks of pension plans and other long-term employee benefits. We focus on the balance sheet position, historic and expected cash flows, and the profit and loss account. At the same time we examine the pension status following the intended sale or purchase. If requested we likewise examine possibilities for harmonisation and cost savings following the transaction.

Deloitte approach

Over the last years we have performed pension due diligences involving several hundreds of private and public investments in or disposals of corporations or parts of corporations. Close cooperation with our colleagues, including Corporate Finance, Transaction Services and M&A Tax specialists, enables us to clearly map out all aspects of the Due Diligence process. Our multidisciplinary approach not only clarifies how to safeguard your pension and employment benefits and deploy them strategically, it provides you with clear added value during the entire acquisition or merger process.
