In the education sector, learning-methods improvement and administrative-quality improvement are permanent objectives. Current movements in primary education are:

new rules for Initiatiefrijke Scholen (enterprising schools) with more powers of self-government

establishment and extension of comprehensive schools

lump sum financing.
Current movements in secondary education are:

decisive changes with regard to the ‘studiehuis’ (current method of pre-university education)

economies of scale through mergers

attuning schools for secondary education to institutes of vocational and higher education.
