Deloitte Mexico Named Socially Responsible Enterprise for the Fifth Consecutive Year

Deloitte Mexico CSR 2005

Galaz, Yamazaki, Ruiz Urquiza, S.C., the Deloitte member firm in Mexico, has received a Socially Responsible Enterprise Award from the Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía (CEMEFI). General Director Ernesto González Dávila accepted the award on behalf of the Mexican firm.

This award recognizes Deloitte Mexico's commitment to the community, its volunteer activities and the priorities set around five key initiatives related to the environment, education, child welfare, sports and culture.

Deloitte Mexico is one of only 12 companies ( of 84 total award winners) to receive this award for five consecutive years. Some of the most important activities conducted by the firm in 2004 and 2005 include:

  • Volunteerism  We support more than 40 non-profit organizations focused on philanthropy through volunteer work and a number of activities involving professional services and donations.
  • IMPACT Day  Under this initiative, our people in Deloitte Mexico participated n eight regional projects for children of low-income families; disabled children and senior citizens.
  • Deloitte's Annual Get-Together Race  Aside from promoting sports among our people and friends, in 2003 and 2004 this event raised funds for the Museum of Popular Arts.
  • Health Month  Our people and their family members attended a series of conferences with the participation of specialized doctors. Benefits also were offered under preventive medicine agreements.
  • Cultural Week  A variety of conferences and music, theater and dance performances took place in our office building.
  • Tsunami relief  A special fundraiser was organized and carried out by Deloitte Mexico in support of people affected by the tsunami.

Indeed, Deloitte Mexico's Corporate Social Responsibility activities are an important external manifestation of our shared values: Integrity, Outstanding Value to Markets and Clients, Commitment to Each Other and Strength from Cultural Diversity.

"At Deloitte Mexico, a key goal is to help in the formation of better citizens, with more social and civic responsibility. We consider the company-community relationship a critical factor in building a better country. Organizations that fulfill their responsibilities as good corporate citizens will sustain leadership because they will have a strong impact on their people and their community. In these activities, participation is voluntary and personal and professional values are aligned. Actions go beyond cash contributions, since they have human value," says Ernesto González, Deloitte's CEO in Mexico.

Also present at the award ceremony were other members of Deloitte Mexico's Corporate Social Responsibility team, including Daniel Del Barrio Burgos, Mexico City's Audit practice director; Arturo García Bello, Audit partner and coordinator of the philanthropic program; Jesús Ramos Granados, national director, Human Resources; Carlos A. García, Leader of the Financial Services industry; and, Javier Romero Río, director, Clients & Markets.
