Supporting the National Library of Malta
Deloitte Malta recently took up sponsorship of New Leaf - a non-profit, voluntary organisation which was set up to preserve and digitise books at the National Library of Malta, and to promote the use of local lending libraries.
As part of it's ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility Programme as well as it's Green Agenda Programme, Deloitte Malta prides itself in contributing towards preserving and promoting local heritage and the local environment. Paul Mercieca, CEO at Deloitte Malta said "We feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to support this noble initiative".
Amongst its list of objectives, New Leaf aims to preserve books at The National Library with specialists and equipment, convert the National Library's hand written library cards to a database, organise book cleaning training and volunteers, convert the out-dated cassette based audio books to MP3, publicise the need for volunteers and promote the use of the national and public libraries.
"Having support from an organisation with calibre such as Deloitte Malta gives us a boost and confidence to our supporters," said Monique Chamers, chair, www.NewLeaf.org.mt. "We are hoping that companies and individuals offer support for their CSR programmes, in terms of financial and time donations. There are a lot of books that need attention."
