Renewable energies

We have an established track record within the renewable energy sector and, as a consequence, have the specialist skills and market knowledge to help clients at all stages of their business development.

Issues and trends within the industry

Renewable energies

  • The sector is wide and diverse – Some technologies, such as hydro and wind, are mature whereas others have yet to prove their worth. Those companies seeking to develop new technologies may struggle to achieve the scale and commercial basis necessary to succeed.
  • There has been increasing competition for assets, particularly in the UK and Europe – Utility companies looking to gain competitive advantage and meet their renewable energy targets have been competing with other players including infrastructure funds.
  • The supply chain is also struggling to keep up with demand – This situation is exacerbated by a shortage of skilled workers and materials, which is leading to cost inflation and may hamper market growth and the EU’s ability to meet its targets.

Deloitte solutions

We focus on two main areas of activity; mergers and acquisitions, and assisting smaller companies to ‘make it big’. Our work is underpinned by our understanding of incentive mechanisms, policy, tax structures, fund raising and business planning – and significantly, our depth of expertise within the renewable energy and wider energy and utilities landscape on a European and global scale.
