On 22 February 2013, Germany and the United States initialed an Intergovernmental Agreement – Model 1 (“IGA”) for the implementation of FATCA.
We expect that many other countries will enter into negotiations about IGA agreements in the near future, as there are several jurisdictions actively engaged in IGA discussions, exploring options for an IGA or holding preliminary meetings with the IRS (see the list attached).
