Why Luxembourg?

Owing to its flourishing economy and politically and socially stable environment, the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg benefits from one of the world’s highest standards of living. The multilingual population welcomes and integrates numerous foreign nations. The national authorities work actively to encourage new investments and innovations making efforts to facilitate international traffic and communications.

In this year’s World Bank LPI (Logistics Performance Index) report, Luxembourg is ranked Nr. 5 worldwide. This index was created to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in trade logistics performance. Another point of high interest for the road transport sector is that fuel is sold in Luxembourg at the lowest prices available in Northern Europe.

Luxembourg lies at the heart of the European Backbone and hence 79% of the European Union GDP can be reached from the country in one day. Its international airport is the 5th largest freight airport in Europe and is specialised in airfreight to key destinations all over the world. Luxembourg’s logistic parks, namely the “Eurohub Centre” and the “Eurohub Sud” benefit from an easy reach of airport, a direct rail connection and from the direct access to two major European Highways.

Favorable tax and regulatory environment
  • The Luxembourg Government pursues a growth-oriented and business friendly tax policy addressing the needs of the employers and employees alike.
  • Luxembourg consistently has had the lowest possible Value Added Tax (VAT) rate across the European Union (15%) – which applies to products and services delivered electronically from Luxembourg to the European marketplace.
  • Luxembourg is the only country in the EU that never requires VAT pre-financing.
  • Luxembourg benefits from lower indirect labor costs for health care and social security contributions.
  • Luxembourg has introduced the EU wide recognised Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and the associated Fiscal Representation to allow for easier, faster and more secure import/export operations and fast-track customs procedures.
