Dr. Eric M. Zafran, the Susan Morse Hilles Curator of European Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT, was born in Malden, Mass. and is a graduate of Brandeis University and New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. He has been a curator for over thirty years, having worked at art museums in New York, Norfolk, Baltimore, Boston, and Atlanta.
He has been at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford Connecticut, America’s oldest museum, for twelve years. During that time he has helped organize exhibitions devoted to such significant artists and subjects as Caravaggio, Dali, Calder, Gauguin, and Balanchine.
He has lectured and written widely on European painting and drawing, and his most recent publications and exhibitions have dealt with Gustave Doré, William Bouguereau, Claude Monet, the Ballets Russes, and Rembrandt.
