Pierre Valentin specialises in art law. For the last 18 years, he has advised art collectors, art dealers, galleries, auctioneers, museums, and artists and their estates.
At Constantine Cannon LLP, he heads a team of specialist art lawyers. He handles a mix of contentious and transactional work including fraud and dispute resolution, restitution and repatriation, private treaty sales, consignments to auction, tax solutions around art, import and export, raising capital against art and art investment funds.
His practice is multi-jurisdictional and covers the fine and decorative arts, from antiquities to contemporary art. Prior to joining Constantine Cannon in 2012, Pierre was a Senior Director and Associate General Counsel at Sotheby's and more recently, a partner of Withers LLP.
He is a trustee of the World Monuments Fund Britain and of the Artists' Collecting Society. He teaches art law at a postgraduate level at the Sotheby's Institute and at Christie's Education.
He is the founder and chair of the association Professional Advisors to the International Art Market (PAIAM) (www.paiam.org). Pierre is fluent in French, Italian and Spanish.
