Dr. Dietrich von Frank, Managing Director HNWI / Art - Nationale Suisse (Switzerland)

Dietrich von Frank

Born in Münster, Germany and raised in Paris, France, Dr. Dietrich von Frank graduated in 1983 at the Law Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, with a LL.B. and at the Art History Faculty with a Ph.D. in 1987.

After first years of experience as a fine art expert underwriter at Nordstern Versicherung AG, Cologne, Dietrich von Frank became Regional Manager for Scandinavia and Northern Germany in 1989. Within this position, he initiated business relationships with major arts and cultural institutions in the former German Democratic Republic by introducing them to the concept of private insurance.

In 1991, Dietrich von Frank developed significant business relationships with Mainland China by facilitating international traveling exhibitions of major Chinese artworks throughout Europe in his position as Managing Director at Nordstern Kunstversicherung AG, Cologne.

Mid 1992 he left the European Continent to become President and CEO of AXA Art Insurance Corp., New York. There, he developed new business opportunities by securing direct access to private fine-arts collectors and museums, including the research and development of an interactive website for art collectors. He initiated AXA Art Conservation Project Series by donating an Ad Reinhardt painting and additional funding to the Guggenheim Study Collection.

Being President of AXA Art Insurcance Corp. also meant to devise business plans to allow AXA Art UK to enter the Canadian fine-art insurance market and AXA Art Versicherung AG to enter the Scandinavian fine-art market in 2002. Between 2003 and 2006 Dietrich von Frank also established branch offices for AXA Art US in Hong Kong and Singapore.

In 2006, he bought the high-end, international interior design firm Owen & Mandolfo, Inc., New York.

Since late 2008, his experience, know-how and international network within the insurance markets as well as collectors circles worldwide is now put to work in the position of Managing Director Art at Nationale Suisse in Basel, Switzerland.
