Welcome to the first survey of CISOs and Information Security Managers in Ireland from Deloitte, in association with EMC.
This past year has seen an unprecedented number of high profile information security incidents, data breaches, cyber attacks, and instances of cybercrime both nationally and globally. Irish organisations have never faced such a myriad of advanced technological threats and attacks on their digital and critical assets. This survey emphasises the major challenge that cybercrime presents for Irish organisations. The average cost of a large cybercrime incident for businesses is €41,875.
It is evident that most organisations are reactive in the event of a security or cybercrime incident, and deal with incidents as they happen. The majority of organisations surveyed have no specialist capacities or technologies to address the increasing cyber threats and technology attacks, and plans to address these threats are not a priority.
Furthermore this reinforces the understanding that Irish organisations are not able to do enough to combat cybercrime, due to limited investment in new technologies and development of intelligent capabilities to prevent potential future attacks in the coming year.
