Data Protection |

In recent times, there has been a lot of publicity surrounding the loss of laptops, memory sticks and other forms of storing confidential information. This can result in embarrassment and not least, a loss of confidence in an organisation regarding the storage of confidential information. In a recent case, a civil servant in the UK was successfully prosecuted, fined and demoted, as a consequence of losing a laptop on a train.
The Data Protection Acts 1998 and 2003 place obligations on individuals and organisations both to register as a "Data Controller" and/or a "Data Processor". We can assist in advising and completing the necessary registration obligations under the acts and also advise on how to comply with its provisions. We can also assist in preparing compliance and monitoring procedures and also advice regarding the retention of records which come within the scope of the Data Protections Acts.
