Liquidation is a process used to wind up both insolvent and solvent companies.  

There are three frequently used types of liquidation and you can read more about each below.

In focus

  • Creditors Voluntary Liquidation
    An insolvent company can put itself into liquidation via its directors and shareholders.
  • Members Voluntary Liquidation
    Used to wind up a solvent company. All creditors are paid and the surplus is distributed to the shareholders.
  • Court Liquidation
    Where an insolvent company is wound up by a creditor via the High Court.
