Data migration approach & process review for major European lottery operator.
Challenge
The client was undertaking a major technology change program related to the systems that supported a national lottery that they operated under licence.
As a part of a migration to a new hardware and software platform, there was a significant data migration effort.
It was critical that the data migrated successfully, as a failure in the lottery systems or loss of data would be highly publicised and fines might have been imposed by the lottery regulator.
Deloitte was asked to undertake an independent review of the approach being taken to the data migration effort.
Approach
Deloitte undertook a thorough review of the data migration approach, including overall approach, technology acceptance criteria (functional and non-functional), organisation and resource experience, testing approach, cutover procedures, rollback procedures and escalation procedures.
Solution
A report was produced highlighting various concerns and recommending appropriate actions.
The client took on board the findings of the report, addressed the highlighted issues and risks and, ultimately, migrated to the new systems successfully.
