As would be expected in the current economic environment, less than half of
organisations are currently recruiting IT resources.
Worryingly, of the organisations who said they are recruiting, 84% of respondents indicated that they are struggling to fill both graduate and experienced hire positions. Particular shortages are being felt in high end and specialised software disciplines with Ireland’s push towards cloud also creating an increase in demand for skills in security, networking and virtualisation.

A significant number of CIOs highlighted IT skills and staff retention in a very active market as the issue ‘that keeps them awake at night’. If CIOs are to push the growth agenda in 2013, then ensuring the country can meet the demand for appropriate skills over the coming years is increasingly critical for both the future success of the IT industry and Ireland's emergence from its current economic difficulties.
