Survey findings: IT budgets

CIO Survey 2012

CIOs are increasingly optimistic with regards to IT budgets in 2013.

The positive trend from previous years has continued and 73% of respondents now predict no change or a budget increase, while 27% predict a decrease. 42% of respondents expect a budget increase in 2013, reversing the trend in IT budget cuts seen over the past number of years. As with last year, a significant split remains in sentiment by sector. Public sector
and financial services organisations continue to expect further cuts to IT budgets, while other, more export driven sectors are anticipating budget increases in 2013.

Last year showed a significant drop in capital spending which indicates that the majority of IT budgets were being spent to maintain and support existing business services. This year, capital expenditure is increasing with CIOs anticipating that the expected increase in budgets will be spent to support the change and growth agenda of their organisations.
