This year has seen a vast improvement in CIO perception of IT/business alignment. 71% of CIOs now rate alignment as either good or excellent.
This represents a significant improvement in sentiment over last year when only 49% rated IT business alignment as good or excellent. It is also encouraging that none of the survey respondents rated IT business alignment as poor.

When asked how IT is enabling a competitive advantage for their company, 28% of CIOs surveyed see technology as enabling access to customers and markets through the provision of new channels, for example mobile devices. Additionally, 42% of CIOs see the provision of business insight provided by data analytics as enabling a competitive advantage.
It would appear that CIOs are demonstrating the value which technology innovation can bring to their organisation, however, CIOs must continue to push innovative solutions including enterprise mobile and data analytics to ensure IT departments have a place in leading the transformation to the post digital enterprise.
