University challenges - Gerard Lyons

DOWNLOAD

Ger LyonsGerard Lyons, Head of Education at Deloitte Ireland gives his point of view on recent Deloitte research into challenges facing Universities - "It is true to say that the current economic crisis is having an effect on the Higher Level Education sector in Ireland and is resulting in each and every institution facing a number of challenges such as reduction in staff costs, increased demand for student places, and a decrease in EU, domestic and research funding. We are all waiting to see what proposals will be made in the Hunt Report which is due out and what this will mean for the Irish Higher Education Level sector.

Our colleagues in the UK recently conducted a survey covering 130 universities which has allowed us gain an insight into their concerns and what they think will have an impact on them now and in the future. Although the Higher Level Education in the UK is far bigger than ours here in Ireland it is possible that they are facing similar challenges to us."
