Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme - DeloitteSHINES with Yayasan Mitra Mandiri Indonesia

Impact Day 2012 (19 October)

This year's Impact Day at Deloitte Indonesia was themed, "Olympics". The Indonesian practice had previously collaborated with Yayasan Mitra Mandiri Indonesia (YMMI), in June 2012 when it rolled out its CSR programme, DeloitteSHINES; an acronym for Spreading Hope in the Nation by Embracing Society.

For our first-ever combined SEA Impact Day, they chose to collaborate with YMMI again. Our colleagues in Jakarta invited 80 youths aged between 13 and 17 from Yayasan Nanda Dian Nusantara, an arm of YMMI that creates programmes for children who live in slums. These youth, whose parents earn less than US$2 a day, and mostly work as scavengers come from extremely underprivileged communities.

Around 120 of our partners and staff engaged in a little friendly competition with the teens. Together, they played games such as basketball, volleyball, futsal, cycling as well as other relay and traditional games at the Highland Park Resort in Bogor.

A fundraising event was also organised. The "O Donation Box" was set up to give our Deloitte people a chance to donate new and second hand items such as clothes, bags, lunch boxes, bottled water, toys and anything that could be used by the children and their families. The donation box was well-received as there was an outpour of donations. It was a gratifying day for our volunteers as they helped to make a difference in the lives of the children.
