Call for Application

Central European Environmental Reporting Award - Green Frog Award 2010Deloitte Hungary invites you again to participate in the 2010 Central European Environmental Reporting Award (CE ERA) scheme, better known as the Green Frog Award. If your company is registered in any of the Central European countries - irrespective of the business sector in which it operates, or the number of employees -, and presents its environmental performance as part of its annual report or through a separate sustainability report, you have the chance to compete for the award.

The award goes to Central European companies that prepare the best annual environmental or sustainability reports. The award has a significant role in that the annual financial statements of companies in the region would not be solely limited to the financial implications of the companies' business.

The "Green Frog Award" is also supported by the directive of the European Parliament and Commission: medium-size and corporate enterprises must prepare - similarly to companies working in other EU member states - a sustainability report, and must complement their business reports with the practical presentation of their social commitment.

The advantages of the preparation and publication of the environmental and sustainability report:

  • The report may be compared with the similar reports of the competitors acting in the same economic sector as the company. Therefore, the reports contain economic, social, and environmental indicators similar to financial indicators.
  • During the preparation of the report, the company acquires a database the elements of which could be previously found separately, at different levels of the organization.
  • As companies in the region are only now beginning to realize the strategic importance of sustainability, the preparation of the report offers a good opportunity for them to differentiate themselves from the competitors and to excel among them.
  • The preparation of the report involves dialogue and communication, starting from the investors, through the customers, suppliers, and employers, to the public. The "Green Frog Award" offers recognition and communication: it provides wide-range publicity for the applicant companies.

The Selection Process

Deloitte will review and evaluate reports that are publicly available on the website of companies preparing an environmental or sustainability report. In addition, it is also possible to submit your reports by mail. We also encourage communications and other agencies who participate in the preparation of such reports for their clients to draw their clients' attention to the Green Frog Award, as it provides an excellent opportunity for companies to gain exposure.

This year’s Judging Panel (owing to its members` nationalities) will evaluate applications in English or Hungarian languages. In case you have only a Croatian, Slovenian or Serbian report, please provide us the English translation. There is no need for formatting this additional report.

Should a company's environmental performance be presented as part of its annual report, the Judging Panel will only consider sections of the report that are relevant to environmental performance.

As a new development, from this year the environmental and the sustainability reports will be evaluated and awarded separately.

The Judges and the Judging Criteria

The judging panel will consist of renowned independent experts (not participating in either the preparation or the verification phase of Corporate Environmental Reports) committed to environmental issues.

The basis of the criteria for the 2010 Central European Environmental Reporting Award is the European Sustainability Reporting Award.

The judging panel will use the criteria outlined below in selecting a winner. The judging panel, however, reserves the right to deviate from the breakdown appearing on the list and to include additional aspects if considered appropriate.
