Business sustainability is in focus of Green Frog Award 2011Companies are welcome to apply for Deloitte's sustainability competition |
Budapest, 14 September 2011 – this year again Deloitte announces the "Green Frog Award". From this year on, sustainability is in focus as shown by the name of the report; also the selection of judges and the evaluation system will be renewed. The prize itself is also a novelty. The winner of the award will receive a gift designed by young artists in expression of the concept of sustainability.
Róbert Reiniger, director of Deloitte's Environmental Consulting service line, commented: Any company registered in any of the Central European countries will have a good chance in competing for the Central European Sustainability Report Award, i.e. also known by its popular name, the Deloitte Green Frog Award, irrespective of the business sector or the number of employees. Deloitte hopes that the award has a significant role in that the annual statements of companies in the region would not be limited solely to the financial implications of the companies' business.
When evaluating applications, the panel this year will assess based on the report how important the principle of business sustainability is for the operation of the company and to what extent the report complies with the international GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) requirements. GRI in itself is naturally no guarantee, only a useful tool for the preparation of an "appropriate" sustainability report which helps assess and compare the impacts of companies irrespective of the sector in which they operate.
The judges will also assess the planning of sustainability performance and whether the applicants are capable of presenting their objectives and achievements in a concise, quantifiable and verifiable manner, transparently and clearly for the public. The objective is that companies should understand: it is essential that apart from professionals their reports should be understandable for a wider public.
Process of selecting the best reports
Gergely Jancsár, senior consultant of Deloitte's Environmental Consulting service line emphasised: The judging panel will consist of Deloitte's experts committed to sustainability issues, who do not participate in either the preparation or the verification of the corporate environmental reports subject to review. The judging panel will review and evaluate publicly available reports on the companies' websites but it is also possible to send the reports by e-mail or post.
The panel will evaluate English language reports. Should a company's environmental performance be presented as part of its annual report, the judges will only consider sections of the report that are relevant. Please note that starting this year the judges will evaluate reports and award prizes using the same criteria for both sustainability and environmental documentation.
