Commitment to local communities and shared global challenges

The changing business environment has also affected society's views of how companies should contribute to their communities. Around the world, Deloitte member firms demonstrate corporate citizenship through active involvement in international and local policy and economic development, skills training and educational programs, and other philanthropic and community relations activities. We believe these are inherent responsibilities of all multinational organizations.
Deloitte has a long tradition of actively supporting the communities where its professionals live and work. Each year thousands of Deloitte employees around the world participate in various activities to support their communities. We participate in solutions to shared global challenges through organizations such as the World Economic Forum, the United Nations, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
IMPACT day
Wishing to demonstrate their commitment to local communities, many Deloitte member firms each year choose a day of the positive impact to the communities where their experts live and work. This is Deloitte's IMPACT Day, usually organized in June. Activities are defined and organized locally, in order to suit the needs of the local communities.
Leaving the office, conference calls and emails behind, Deloitte employees put their passion, determination and skills to use in many different volunteering activities aimed at improving the quality of life in local communities. They take part in a variety of community investment activities: teaching school children, students and unemployed, cleaning public facilities, gardening, providing companionship to the older citizen and like. Philanthropic activities
Deloitte's investments in community take many forms, including financial help. Our employees feel that by their individual contribution can also improve the quality of live of those in need. Therefore, Deloitte people organized several humanitarian actions to help the following organisations:
- S.O.S. Children's Willage from Osijek – improvement of quality of life of thier protegee A.K.
- "Nova budućnost", NGO for helping children without parental care – collecting children's toys
- Center for rehabilitation Paunovac – equipement for the audio-visual center
- "Vinko Bek" grammar school for visually impared – helping the informatisation of the school
Participation in the joint action of Global Compact network in Croatia and the UN agencies
Deloitte participated in the humanitarian action initiated by UN in Croatia, organized as a part of the celebration of the international UN Day. The goal of this action was to raise funds for several NGOs specialized for the inclusion of the children and youth with physical and intellectual disabilities. Besides financial help, the action showed the readiness of distinguished Croatian companies to cooperate with other social sectors and adapt positive measures aimed at the better inclusion the people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Deloitte's "Green dot"
We think that each company has a responsibility to minimize the impact of its business on the environment. Therefore, we carry out and plan several actions in the "Green dot" programme, aimed at improving our relationship to the environment.
The main activities in "Green dot" so far were:
- Providing boxes for collecting waste paper in all copy rooms and premises
- Organizing transport of collected paper to the recycling plants
- Collecting PET containers for recycling
- Two-sided printing, in order to reduce the quantity of waste paper
- Introducing the message "Please consider environment before printing this e-mail" as an obligatory part of all e-mail signatures
