The Australian federal government recently released the Cutler review’s green paper, "venturousaustralia’ - building strength in innovation." The document, prepared after receiving more than 700 submissions, is a bold policy blueprint outlining ways in which government innovation policy can drive the economy to meet the challenges of the next generation. The green paper broadens the government’s approach to innovation and outlines a holistic approach to innovation policy. It aims to provide unity, direction and common focus to individual firms, universities, government agencies and research institutions.
The paper makes seven key tax and innovation recommendations. Of the nine recommendations the Deloitte R&D Tax and Incentives group made to the review, five were selected by the panel as key recommendations.
