I love ‘getting my hands dirty’ with data, finding out what it is that clients need to do about their customers or products and understanding the details, the similarities and the shapes of the data that lead to this insight.
In my job I spend a lot of time talking to our strategy, human capital, operations and tax people about how they can do things better, faster, or cheaper through using analytics tools. And I work with my line management to supply these and the resources they need.
I joined Deloitte in London 2005 and immediately was attached to a couple of business intelligence projects in public health. Over the next few years, I became involved in the Information Quality offering while serving clients in financial services. I moved to Deloitte in Zurich in 2009 and since then have focused on business intelligence and data architecture for a number of large financial institutions and am responsible for developing the Analytics proposition within consulting and building the Advanced Analytics team.
Most of my experience has been built around the financial services sector, and in particular in the risk, finance and customer areas. However, I‘ve specialised more in consulting and have always been more of a data specialist who can apply my skills across industry groups.
Deloitte stands out because of the range of skills and expertise here. While we as analytics practitioners can do lots of cool stuff with data, we also have the business knowledge across the firm so we can really interpret the data and determine actions that are specific to the maximising the clients business potential. The team across Deloitte brings this; one part can’t live without the other.
When I joined Deloitte I never expected that I’d be living and working in Switzerland in 2012 and I’m very likely to remain here for a long time.
