I love math models, I love brainteasers and I love crunching numbers. I love to see the pattern where everyone else sees chaos and to see the colors where everyone else sees black and white. Analytics gives you the ability to change the way you see everything around you.
As a director leading Advanced Analytics, I am in charge of projects with a high component of analysis trying to maximize actionable insights from large databases using tools such as SPSS and SAS. I really enjoy leading my teams through the complex analysis of data and like that I can make smart recommendations back to our clients.
I decided to try this consulting role because of the intellectual challenges and also because I really enjoy being part of a consulting team. All of my teammates are really smart people.
I am assigned to Financial Services clients and have been working on projects related to debit cards, credit cards, ATMs and interchange fees for about five years at Deloitte Mexico. My most memorable project involved developing a business case and actionable recommendations to increase POS invoicing with debit cards in retailers. It was really challenging as we had to work through so much information to get to the right recommendations and it really strengthened my analytics experience.
Analytics as a group of mathematical techniques could be done by anyone, but here at Deloitte my team and I spend a lot of time analyzing the information and understanding the competitive landscape as well as how our clients make money and could increase their efficiency. We don’t just sell analytics tools, we sell the smartest solution to the problem. We know how to ‘do’ analytics but what sets us apart is the ability to use that analysis to provide better results for the clients businesses.
Analytics has changed not only the way I enjoy my work or how I help my clients, it has changed the way I see everything around me, which I never expected.
