The things I love most about my job are connecting people across the firm, using the coolest of technology and showcasing the art of the possible. I am motivated to find the true insight discovery that helps clients learn things about their businesses that they didn’t know before.
My current role is to lead the Deloitte Analytics Institute in the UK. It’s all about bringing the UK firm together, acting as one in the analytics space, looking at new research and innovation, educating and training our people in analytics and providing sales support to all Deloitte UK partners and staff regarding our analytics offerings.
Working with Deloitte Analytics, I’ve had the opportunity to be a team member on many satisfying projects where we used analytics to fully understand the situation, find evidence of misconduct, and help put away the bad guys. Without using analytics, we would never have broken the case. My most memorable project was an international corruption case where we had to use analytics to review billions of accounting entries to help the investigators find the smoking gun. Without the use of powerful analytics, I think even after four years we’d still be looking through the data!
There were over 1,000 practitioners across the Deloitte member firms who worked on this corruption case. I had the pleasure to work with analytics professionals from across the globe and had the opportunity to visit Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and China.
What makes Deloitte unique to me is our deep understanding of our clients’ business issues and concerns and the way we collaborate across the firm to bring in analytics experts from all industries and sectors to help address these issues. Deloitte Analytics is fast becoming the foundation for getting a wide range of experience across all sectors and projects, whereas traditionally practitioners were tied to a particular service line.
When I joined Deloitte I never expected that I’d still be here 20 years later and be a Director. Deloitte has shown me that whatever type of analytics I want to do I can find a natural home for it within Deloitte. That’s why I decided to focus on the Deloitte Analytics Institute and take this message to the next generation of Deloitte.
