Independent analyst rates Deloitte a UK sustainable business consulting leader
14 November 2011
A new in-depth comparative evaluation of the sustainable business consulting service provider landscape by respected independent sustainability analyst, Verdantix, has rated Deloitte a UK market leader.
The study, Verdantix 2011 Green Quadrant: UK Sustainable Business Consulting Services, evaluates the relative capabilities of the UK’s top fourteen providers of sustainable business consulting services to UK companies. Capability areas evaluated by Verdantix include: corporate sustainability strategy; responsible supply chain; corporate growth strategies; reporting and compliance; commercial due diligence; mergers and acquisitions; change management; carbon markets and offsetting.
The factors that distinguish sustainable business consulting ‘leaders’ according to Verdantix include: management frameworks that apply a holistic perspective; sustainability change management engagements; depth and breadth across all sustainability service offerings; differentiation with a global practice group network; active engagement in shaping the sustainability market; long-term investments in internal sustainability programmes; and significant awareness of sustainability expertise with potential clients.
According to Rodolphe d’Arjuzon, Director of Verdantix said: “During the last four years, a combination of ramping energy costs, climate change policy, new market opportunities and competitive dynamics has encouraged FTSE 100 firms to invest in more ambitious corporate sustainability strategies. Despite the recession, the UK Government has continued to implement ambitious climate change regulations with material financial impacts and new drivers for sustainability spending such as brand competition in retail have emerged. We will see increasing numbers of UK firms implement sustainability programmes that aim to transform their business as opposed to demonstrating the ability to transform individual assets, such as corporate HQ, or specific business processes such as manufacturing lines. This will require a shift in consulting services for which firms like Deloitte are ideally positioned.”
“Deloitte is prominent amongst only a handful of firms who have delivered broad, holistic, transformational engagements. Deloitte has the global brand and C-level relationships to initiate discussions on sustainability business transformation and enable the CEO to articulate a corporate-wide sustainability vision. Deloitte’s Sustainability Enterprise Wide Value Map management framework helps clients integrate social and environmental activity across all of their business practices. Deloitte also has the human resources, breadth and depth of expertise and industry coverage to deliver on the largest sustainability projects. Our analysis revealed consistently strong scores across the seven core service lines, with market leading scores for consulting services in responsible supply chain, corporate growth strategies, and carbon markets and offsetting.”
According to Guy Battle, Deloitte UK Sustainability Services practice leader: “This ‘leader’ rating by Verdantix is important validation of the priority we have placed on growing Deloitte’s sustainability consulting and advisory capabilities. It confirms Deloitte’s position as a leader in helping clients navigate complex, often business-critical sustainability issues including energy management, responsible business operations, resource scarcity, biodiversity, and stakeholder engagement. By combining specialised expertise in these areas with traditional, core Deloitte competencies across strategy and operations, IT consulting, human capital, tax and financial advisory, governance and risk management, we can bring our unique capabilities to sustainability engagements, delivering a discernibly different client experience.”
